Attachment Trauma

Maltreatment or neglect inflicted within a child’s relationship with a parent or other primary caregiver. Often results from impaired caregiving– whether malicious or unintentional in nature– associated with family mental illness, substance abuse, domestic violence, and other forms of trauma or life adversity. Disrupts a child’s internalization of healthy boundaries, secure connection to others, and sense of being loved and worthy of love.
