Vestibular System
The sensory system that regulates one’s sense of balance, stability and self-location, or groundedness to where one is located in space. When the vestibular system is responsive in a healthy manner, it supports one’s ability to to feel secure and confident in their body and movements. Change in the position or movement of the head evokes vestibular input, and has an impact on arousal level. Vestibular input can be utilized for upregulation (e.g. spinning, bouncing) or downregulation (e.g. rhythmic rocking, head inversion).
